Iran hosts ECO conference on logistics and transit development

The Conference on Logistics and Transit Development in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) region was launched on Monday in Bandar Abbas, Southern Iran.

Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister, Ali Nikzad, announced in the conference that Iran aims to increase its annual transit capacity to 30 million tons in coming years, from current 12 million tons.

Nikzad also inaugurated the ECO Container Train on Bandar Abbas - Almaty Route on the sidelines of the conference.

He stated that the 3,756 km-long Bandar Abbas - Almaty Route has the capacity of transiting 2 million tons of goods per annum.

Delegates from Ministries of Transport and Customs Administrations as well as the national freight forwarder and logistic associations and the business community of the ECO member states have attended the 3-day event.

International organizations and international financial institutions including UNCTAD, IRU, UNEC and IDB are also invited to the Conference.
